Hyodeoxycholic acid

Hyodeoxycholic acid (HDCA, CAS: 83-49-8) is a secondary bile acid with the chemical formula C₂₄H₄₀O₄ and molecular weight 392.57 g/mol. As a characteristic component of porcine bile (15-20% of bile acid pool), its unique 6α-hydroxyl structure confers distinctive pharmacological activities. The 2023 Chinese Pharmacopoeia newly listed it as a choleretic drug raw material (Standard No.: Y-0045), while the European EMA approved it as an orphan drug for gallstone dissolution in 2022 (EU/3/22/1358).
